Overview

Two-piece Chinese carved timber frame, comprising a large rectangular surround and a separate curved crescent-shaped panel. The frame features elaborate carved panels throughout, including figural scenes, floral motifs, birds, geometric fretwork and scrollwork. The front face is finished in red lacquer with gilt highlights on the carved sections. The reverse shows the natural timber construction with unpainted timber framing.

* Central opening is open (no backing or mirror)

* Dark timber visible on the reverse

Piece 2 - Curved Crescent Panel
* Tall crescent-shaped panel with a straight left edge and a concave curved right edge
* Deeply carved with birds, flowers, fruit, foliage and scrollwork in gilt over red lacquer
* Geometric fretwork squares run along the straight left edge

Condition Notes
* The red lacquer shows age-related wear, with areas of paint loss, rubbing and patina visible across both pieces
* Some gilt detail has worn or darkened with age
* Minor chips and losses visible on some carved elements
* General wear consistent with age and use
* Both pieces appear structurally intact as visible in photos
