United Kingdom Penny 1945 King George VI / Britannia reverse Grade (our assessment): VG-8 to F-12 Slabbed: No (raw coin, housed in cardboard 2x2 holder) Metal: Bronze (97% copper, 2.5% zinc, 0.5% tin) Weight: 9.45g Diameter: 30.8mm Mintage: Approximately 79,531,000 (Royal Mint, London) Obverse: Bare (uncrowned) head of King George VI facing left. Legend: GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP. Reverse: Seated Britannia with trident and shield. "ONE PENNY" either side. Date 1945 below. Surface: Uneven dark brown to chocolate patina; notable dark spotting across the obverse face and fields Cleaning: No obvious abrasive cleaning; however, uneven patina suggests possible past exposure to moisture or chemical contact Condition notes: Obverse only photographed. Heavy wear on portrait high points - hair and cheekbone noticeably flattened. Multiple dark spots or staining across the obverse are the most significant condition issue and are clearly visible. Small mark or nick near the bottom rim. Reverse not photographed; buyer inspection recommended. The 1945 penny is a wartime issue struck during the final year of World War II. High mintage - this is a common date. The coin's condition, particularly the dark spotting, is reflected in the grade assessment above.
