1938 United Kingdom One Penny - King George VI - Britannia Reverse

Important note on this lot: the original listing described this as a "1932 ONE PENNY COIN, COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA." The photos tell a different story. The reverse shows the seated Britannia design, which is exclusive to British pennies. Australian pennies carry the kangaroo reverse by George Kruger Gray. The date visible on both the coin and the cardboard holder is 1938, not 1932.



What this actually is: a 1938 United Kingdom bronze penny struck at the Royal Mint in London. The obverse carries the bare-head portrait of King George VI with the legend "GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP." The reverse features Leonard Charles Wyon's seated Britannia holding trident and shield, with "ONE PENNY" around the right side.



The coin presents in honest Fine condition with moderate wear on Britannia's drapery and the portrait detail. Natural dark chocolate-brown toning is even and consistent with uncleaned aged bronze. Legends are fully readable, the date is clear, and the rim appears intact. No evidence of cleaning.



If this were genuinely a 1932 Australian penny, it would be one of the rarest and most valuable coins in Australian numismatics. It is not. Please bid accordingly for what this lot actually is.
