Australia Penny 1955 Queen Elizabeth II (obverse) / Kangaroo reverse Grade (our assessment): G-4 to VG-8. The kangaroo design shows significant wear with flattened high points and partially legible legend. Only the reverse is visible in photos; obverse detail not assessed. Buyer inspection recommended. Slabbed: No (raw coin in 2x2 cardboard holder) Metal: Bronze (97% copper, 2.5% zinc, 0.5% tin) Weight: 9.45g Diameter: 30.8mm Mintage: approximately 26,508,480 (Melbourne Mint) Surface: Heavy dark brown toning with uneven mottled coloration; some areas approaching black Cleaning: No evidence of deliberate cleaning; darkness consistent with environmental exposure or improper storage Condition notes: Well-circulated example with heavy, even wear. Possible surface grime or residue visible in photos. Date area appears legible under magnification. No rim damage observed. The murky appearance in photos suggests the coin may benefit from gentle conservation cleaning prior to inspection. The 1955 Australian penny was struck at the Melbourne Mint and features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse with the familiar kangaroo reverse by George Kruger Gray. A common date in circulated grades. 646124+9547
