United Kingdom Shilling 1947 King George VI / reverse variant not confirmed from photos Grade (our assessment): VF-25 to VF-30 Slabbed: No (raw coin, housed in cardboard 2x2 holder) Metal: Cupro-nickel (75% copper, 25% nickel) Weight: 5.65g Diameter: 23.6mm Mintage: Approximately 12,120,000 (English reverse) and 12,283,000 (Scottish reverse) combined Obverse: Bare (uncrowned) head of King George VI facing left. Legend: GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX. Reverse: Not photographed. Either the English reverse (crowned lion of England standing on crown) or Scottish reverse (lion of Scotland seated on crown). Buyer inspection recommended to confirm variant. Surface: Medium to dark grey natural patina consistent with circulated cupro-nickel Cleaning: No evidence of artificial cleaning Condition notes: Obverse only photographed. Moderate circulation wear with hair detail above ear flattened and cheekbone area smoothed. Legends sharp and fully legible. Rim denticles visible with light wear. No major damage. The 1947 shilling is the first year the denomination was struck in cupro-nickel, having previously been struck in 50% silver. This makes 1947 a transitional issue of historical note. Two variants exist (English and Scottish reverse) and both were minted in similar quantities. The reverse variant cannot be confirmed without examining the coin in hand.
