Description:

2 x 18K Gold Stamp Replicas - First Victoria Stamp 1850 and First Queensland Stamp 1860 - Matthey Garrett Certified

Set No. 0044. Two 18-carat gold philatelic ingots in original presentation case with certificates of authenticity.

In 1850, Victoria issued its first postage stamp: the "Half Length" Half Penny portrait of Queen Victoria, one of the most recognisable early colonial issues in Australian philatelic history. A decade later, Queensland issued its own first stamp to mark the colony's separation from New South Wales. Two pivotal moments in Australian history, both rendered here in 18-carat gold, with dual certification and nearly two-thirds of a troy ounce of gold between them.

The set (No. 0044) comprises two square gold ingots struck in relief, each with the historical stamp design on the front and "MG. 18CT" on the reverse, numbered 6044. Matthey Garrett certifies the combined weight at not less than 0.64 troy oz. At 18-carat (750/1000 fine), that gives approximately 0.48 troy oz of fine gold across the two pieces. The accompanying Certificate of Authenticity, signed by the President of the Philatelic Association of New South Wales and bearing the NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) registration, confirms both the historical accuracy and the metal purity.

Photos show both pieces with light toning and minor fingerprint transfer from handling over the years. The blue velvet-lined presentation case is in good condition. No evidence of cleaning or deliberate polishing.

Metal: 18-carat gold (750/1000 fine)

Weight: Not less than 0.64 troy oz (approx. 19.9 grams) combined for both pieces

Fine gold content: Approx. 0.48 troy oz (approx. 14.9 grams)

Manufacturer: Matthey Garrett Pty. Ltd. (MG hallmark)

Assay: NATA-registered laboratory certified

Set number: 0044

Certificates: Two included (Philatelic Association of NSW authentication, Matthey Garrett assay)

Packaging: Original hinged presentation case, blue velvet interior, good condition

Condition: Light toning and surface patina. Minor fingerprint transfer. No cleaning.

Nearly two-thirds of a troy ounce of 18-carat gold with dual certification, colonial historical significance, and appeal to both bullion buyers and philatelic collectors. Reference current gold spot price to assess the melt floor on this lot. A set like this, fully certified and in original packaging, is not the kind of thing you see every day.
