Australian 50 Cent Commemorative Coin - Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Australia. Royal Australian Mint. Dodecagonal (12-sided) copper-nickel commemorative. Melbourne 2006 was one of Australia's proudest sporting moments, the XVIII Commonwealth Games held in a city that knows how to host a major event. The Royal Australian Mint issued this commemorative fifty-cent piece to mark the occasion, featuring athletes in various sporting disciplines in a dynamic radial design around the central denomination. The obverse carries the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA" around the rim. This is an honest, circulated example. The coin shows general wear across the high points of the design. Verdigris (green surface corrosion) is present on the obverse, consistent with exposure to moisture or humidity at some point. No cleaning or polishing has been applied. The coin is housed in a standard 2x2 cardboard holder. The obverse date is partially obscured in photos. The vendor advises 2005, but buyers are encouraged to confirm the date at inspection. If you are building a complete set of Australian commemorative fifty-cent pieces or a Commonwealth Games collection, this fills the spot. It won't win a grading contest, but it is genuine and unaltered. Grade (our assessment): Fine (F-12) to Very Fine (VF-20). Environmental toning (verdigris) present on obverse. Slabbed: No (raw, in cardboard holder) Country: Australia Denomination: 50 cents Year (vendor advised): 2005 Type: Commemorative - Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Metal: Copper-nickel Mint: Royal Australian Mint, Canberra Cleaning: No evidence of cleaning Toning: Environmental toning (verdigris) on obverse Condition notes: Circulated.
